This year, several English cathedrals are celebrating anniversaries telling Britain’s story, both past and present. Canterbury and Portsmouth are marking their historic links with Thomas Becket, Lincoln Cathedral with 800 years of St. Hugh, and Salisbury will be commemorating the 800th anniversary of the founding of its city and its iconic cathedral. St. Edmundsbury will celebrate the Abbey’s 1,000-year birthday and Durham will launch six new northern saints’ trails. Chichester Cathedral is staging a major Flower Festival (just after Chelsea) and Winchester Cathedral is hosting the 2020 Southern Cathedrals Festival. Full Britain Insider story here. |
