Just as the Chelsea Flower Show can be the main draw for a Garden Tour and the Jane Austen Festival can do the same for a Literary Tour, so next year’s 350th anniversary of the birth of Susanna Wesley, mother of John and Charles Wesley could be the reason for a UK Methodist tour that looks more closely at her life and times.

Staying with the Christian Heritage theme, my C S Lewis tour starts in his birthplace in Northern Ireland before visiting Oxford and Cambridge where he spent most of his life.  The Pilgrim Fathers trail starts in Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire before travelling to Holland where they settled before the Mayflower voyage really began.  Keep this in mind as we approach the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower sailing from Plymouth to America in 2020.

I’ve added a south of England Cathedral’s Tour which can be timed to coincide with the annual Corpus Christie Carpet of Flowers in Arundel Cathedral and have closed with a testimonial which shows what we can deliver when given the chance!

Susanna 350

2019 marks the 350th anniversary of the birth of Susanna Wesley, mother of her two famous sons, John and Charles.  Their home was at the Epworth Old Rectory near Lincoln and your Methodist contacts will want to know about this tour which can be timed to coincide with a year-long programme of events including drama, music, art, needlework and living history days.

CS Lewis

Starting with a look at his earlier years in Belfast and County Down, this tour celebrates the life of the great theologian and author of the Narnia books and the Space Trilogy. He spent most of his working life in Oxford and Cambridge and the itinerary includes visits to places he would have known well in and around the two university cities.

In the Footsteps Of the Pilgrim Fathers

This England and Holland tour tells the story of the Separatists who in the early 17th century were part of a wider Puritan movement that wanted to reform the Anglican State Church.  It follows their life and times in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire and then takes you to Amsterdam and Leiden in Holland where they settled before the Mayflower voyage really began.

Corpus Christie Carpet of Flowers

In 1878, Henry XV Duke of Norfolk started what has now become a tradition of laying a carpet of flowers down the central aisle of the church he had recently completed in Arundel near to his castle.  It celebrates a commemoration of the Eucharist; the Body and Blood of Christ which continues to the present day. The 2019 date are 19th-20th June.

A Carillion of Southern Bells

In this tour, the magnificent Cathedrals in Portsmouth, Chichester, Winchester, Salisbury and Guildford come together to form the foundations for a memorable travel less, sing more of the south of England. In addition to a mix of special Cathedral tours, Choral Evensong and other action-packed visits, time this tour to coincide with the Corpus Christie Carpet of Flowers in Roman Catholic Arundel Cathedral.

How Did We Do?

“Janie Lamont and Betty Bunn were very pleased with their trip to England and Wales. All their connections and transfers worked out very well.  Other than one of them taking too much luggage for the trip, they had a wonderful time! Thank you for all your assistance in making their trip a most enjoyable and trouble free one”.
