I don't know where your reading interests lie but mine hover around the 13th-16th century with a liberal dash of novels based on Roman and Viking Britain. Current reading sees me anchored in and thoroughly enjoying Elizabethan England.
So, when details of the 2023 Jousting Seasons at 11th century Arundel Castle and 13th century Hever Castle recently popped up on my screen, they set me thinking about how these and other authentic experiences of this quality can enrich a UK itinerary, especially one for a family wanting have-a-go close encounters with living history. Several of our great castles play a leading role in these re-enactments and more events will be revealed in January.
Read on and learn more about jousting, medieval kebabs, preachers, surgeons and the odd Dragon Keeper as I reveal more hidden gems that you may not hear about through conventional channels. You'll be pleased to learn that there's plenty more to come in the weeks and months ahead. Let's explore how some of them can add bubble, fizz and pleasant surprises to your plans for customised UK tours for families and small groups with specific interests. |
